Oh are we actually talking about football here?

Nice. Really, I’ve never seen a photo that was able to capture the awe I felt in Arches or Canyonlands. I think it’s the most beautiful landscape I’ve ever scene.

That guy is so fun to watch. He quickly became the most popular #Mariner not named Cal. Then he said some nice things about the fans and that he actually likes to hit in T-Mobile! Dipoto was like “5 years? No problem. Why is that printer so damn slow?”

That’s the narrative

Because I thought it was obvious:
- 1/2 his games it the toughest park to hit
- manage pitchers and call games
- squat for 1072 innings with 0 passed balls, most in baseball
-reaching 60, most HRs ever by a switch hitter
- won division
- one of the greatest performances in history for his position

Might not be whet you’re going for but the OG Ramones is never a bad move

I don’t think it’s a perfect process. I could complain about East Coast bias, and an over-emphasis on metrics, but my original intent was to object to your statement that it wasn't particularly close. arguing on bsky is how I’m coping with the relentlessly not-quite enough outcomes M’s fans endure.
November 15, 2025 at 3:34 PM
Agree that he does. Metrics are great, but WAR significantly undervalues the impact of catchers. My point is that the MVP should not be decided by an Excel spreadsheet. There is a vote, and narrative is a factor. Judge was amazing. Cal was historic.
November 15, 2025 at 2:50 PM
No you take whole picture. Judge was the best hitter. Cal was the MVP.
November 15, 2025 at 7:47 AM
That’s totally nonsensical. Stats and narrative are not the same. It’s why there is a vote, and not an Excel spreadsheet to decide. Miggy won in 2012 over Trout w a higher WAR because the story of the triple crown and a division was significant. Judge was amazing. Cal was super-human.
November 15, 2025 at 7:44 AM
What would be stupid is sorting by WAR and highest one gets the MVP. There is a reason for voting. The narrative matters.
November 15, 2025 at 7:37 AM
He does. But Cal deserves it more. His team won the division, he reached historic milestones, and what he did physically and mentally was super-human.
November 15, 2025 at 7:33 AM
Why does that matter? I suspect every catcher in the league had a much greater defensive impact than Judge because of the nature of the position. Cal also caught the most innings in baseball (with zero past balls), and still had the legs to produce one of the greatest season by a catcher in history
November 15, 2025 at 7:27 AM
There is a long tradition of the narrative of the player’s season being an important factor. Otherwise it would just be metrics deciding it. e.g, 2012: Trout had the highest WAR, but Miggy had a Triple Crown and division title so he won.
November 15, 2025 at 7:17 AM
Fine. It’s only Baseball Reference doesn’t have framing. The point still the same. WAR undervalues catchers. Highest WAR doesn’t decide the MVP.
November 15, 2025 at 2:49 AM
Come on, that metric is well known to undervalue catchers. It doesn’t measure pitch calling, framing, or game management — all things Cal excelled at. Still metrics are great tools, but the narrative matters. If not then why have a vote? The highest WAR doesn’t decide the MVP.
November 15, 2025 at 2:18 AM
Sure. He’s awesome. But like I said, not really the central point I was making.
