Paul Flewitt - Writer of Dark Things
@realpaulflewitt.bsky.social
Horror and dark fantasy writer, father and all around goof.
The passing of David Lynch really highlights how we undervalue our true visionaries, a group which diminishes with each passing year. We have guys like Clive Barker and Guillermo Del Toro, but who will be allowed to succeed them.

The world is too risk averse in the mainstream.

On the day that Trump issued the derecognition of trans people, the White House also says that we will all be recognised as the gender assigned at conception
Let's think about that.

We're all girls now, according to the White House!!

How is America a superpower? Seriously 😂

Hey yo. I've had a BlueSky account for some time, but have only posted sparingly and quite randomly. I'll try and be more present now, since more of my friends have taken the plunge.

Hi all folks, both known and less known.

I would urge all the writers in my feed to read this Author's Guild open letter, then consider adding your name and sarong with your own writing associates. This is step one...

Important information here for any writers who's name is listed on the AI training database...

Shocking development in the field of AI training. It seems developers are taking comet from free books to train their generators. There is a list compiled of work which has been stolen, and now being plagiarised by AI. A good few friends are named in the list.

Yesterday was about rites of passage as I sat with my daughter for her first ink.

Today is about family, hooking up with my brother this afternoon, then off to play pool mixed doubles with my wife.

Probably preaching to the choir here but...

When I was a kid I wanted my own library. I wanted to curate my own room of books. Now I'm a grown up, that's pretty much exactly what I have. I own over 1000 physical books, and I have no intention of stopping there.

Man, I feel sorry for kids today.

When I was a kid, you'd wake up early rush downstairs and eat an early breakfast while watching X-Men, The Raccoons and Teenage Mutant Hero (not ninja in the UK when I was a kid) Turtles.

Appreciating Stephen King in his birthday, one of the writers I cite as being a cornerstone of my own writing.
When I was a kid, I had a copy of Danse Macabre given to me by a neighbour. It was my first "adult horror" book, and I was captivated. My own writing changed irrevocably after that.

A few days ago, I had the pleasure of speaking with mattsrandomramblings on YouTube. The interview is now live.
We spoke about my newest novel, Architecture, as well as random writing stuff. Oh, and there's a comedy author blooper too.

Check it out here...

Heads up for my fellow writers out there... wixh is most of you, I suppose.

The Get Writing Horror group on Facebook has branched out into a couple of new groups, compiling blogs and podcasts. The aim is for writers to be able to approach more easily, and to increase their following.

It's honestly great to look up timelines here and see writers I post contact with or moved from more familiar socials. It's like the old days again.

Happy Monday, folks. Back after a full weekend with an off colour child.

What did you do with your free time?
September 18, 2023 at 11:24 AM
This appeared in our family chat group. Not sure if my wife is wanting me to rate her plate...

Oh right, so they'll remake Christine, but not Rawhead Rex?

Screw you, Hollywood!!

My usual Wednesday routine would be to write in the ice rink bar while my son has his hockey lesson. Today, its far, far too loud and busy.
Christmas show is upcoming, so it's going to be full of figure skating mums for the next 14 weeks.

So, there goes the writing routine...

Tuesday night is usually watching my wife play pool in her women's league. Not this weeks though. This time its mixed doubles KO week. So, I get to play doubles with my wife against players I don't play against on Mondays. Should be fun.

My latest, along with a nice little quote from a review.
Still quite proud of this one.

In a break away from writing, tonight is pool league night!! Time away with friends, a few drinks and games of pool.

This is a really interesting and useful conversation for writers. It's with Joe Abercrombie and Brandon Sanderson, talking about writing process. It's not just me who gets bogged down in the middle of a project!!
