I think the natural inclination of every generation is to believe that everything is for and about us, and much of that sentiment comes from religion. It clearly is not for and about us; we're just part of it, passing through... How many religions have come and gone before recorded history?

Eventually, yes. But, not all together at the same time, and not in our lifetime. No religious dogma will suddenly become true, and they will continue to be eroded away by the discoveries of future generations. That's not a plot against religions; it's just reality popping bubbles.
