I wonder if having an exclusive contract with one airline has anything to do with this? Just sucks, I planned my work schedule around what MLS said it would be.

Agreed - though I’d rather they move the helo routes (like east of I295) and keep 33. Depending on the winds and weight, 33 is a great option. Rny 1/19 can get so congested and you spend so much time hoping the plane rotating gets off before you cross the threshold.

But that’ll be all assessed.

Usually true.

Though the caveat would be at DCA half, if not more, of the aircraft movements are on regional sized aircraft making 33 pretty common. There are also times where the winds would be so strong from the west that rny 1 would be out of limits, so you’d see mainline planes using rny 33.

There is guidance on how to do the circle 33 appr, and it looks like the CRJ did it. The “route 4” mentioned in @gtconway.bsky.social ‘s original post makes sense, though I believe they’re suppose to hug the shoreline. They looked really feet wet on the ADSB data. But that’s the helo world, so idk

Landing on 33 was pretty common. Many times, it was actually preferred even when it wasnt busy just cause the taxi time would be quicker to the Eagle gates or 35x when that was still a thing.
