The game is far from perfect. But as a chill little survival crafter it’s been a good time. (Pro tip, if you search online you can find a very cheap Exploration Pack dlc that unlocks all Yland areas and saves a bit of F2P grind.)

So Ylands = Islands. Many of them, and while you can’t just roam around the whole world sailing to your hearts content, you can load into each Ylands area on your ship and then roam around that area looking for different Islands to sail to and plunder for resources etc.
