Just finished “James” by Percival Everett. Solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Some books should be read not only because they are “good” but because they are important. This is 100% one of those books.

Last read: “King of Ashes” - S.A. Crosby. Crosby is basically an auto buy for me.

Not sure our bunny friends know about the heat wave. Better munch as much clover as they can before the yard is scorching.

Hammock views. If we ever lose this oak tree it’ll take a little piece of my soul. I like to believe it was here before the house (1953) when this suburb was all farmland and forest. 🌱

Heat wave is on the way and water is out in the garden for visiting creatures. I’ll be in the hammock under the great oak tree. 🌱

Slowly but surely the blooms are coming. It’s been an unreasonably wet and chilly spring here and I’ve been patiently waiting.

My problem is I have a soft spot for a lot of “weeds” so I’ll always just be a messy and chaotic gardener.

I guess I have to go to work tomorrow. Back to reading in the city. I think I prefer Warblers over a lot of Lawyers…

We saw a loon courtship dance last night. Such magic in the synchronicity. Nature is the purest definition of awesome. This is so good for the soul.

Spending the long weekend at one of my very favorite places (and favorite places to read). A bald eagle swooped across the windows right before a light drizzle began to shimmer on the water. A pileated woodpecker taps a quick heartbeat out of sight.

Took “Home of the American Circus” with me to San Francisco last week. There is something about Allison Larkin’s writing that I find accessible but still so layered. “The People We Keep” was one of my favorite books in 2021. This one will stay with me too.

My April @aardvarkbookclub.bsky.social pick is “Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng” by Kylie Lee Baker.

So far this gory, but thoughtful and psychologically tense story, set during the COVID-19 pandemic, is unputdownable.
