The boy returns home rambling about a creature in the woods. His mother, ashamed of his sudden mental decline, has him institutionalized.
The blacksmith doesn't acknowledge what happened that night, only that he was followed. He brings the baker's a new set of tongs to apologize for (10/?)

-right at him. His gaze darkens, a frown creasing his features.
The tree turns to look and two bright yellow eyes bore right into the baker's son's soul.
"You shouldn't have followed me," the blacksmith says.
The world goes black, visions of a world left behind dancing behind the baker's son's (9/?)

-the darkness.
"Vik, I know you're there," the blacksmith calls after a short silence. "C'mon, you don't need to scare me."
The trees rustle before one begins to /move/.
"You are being followed, Jayce," the tree says in a strange metallic voice.
The baker's son squeaks as the blacksmith looks (8/?)

-close in on the baker's son as he follows. His skin prickles, as if something is watching him. A twig snaps and the blacksmith pulls his horse to a stop. The baker's son does the same, watching as the blacksmith dismounts.
"Viktor?" he calls, his voice taking on a fond note that seems odd in (7/?)

-night, the baker's son resolves to follow after him. After all, no one has seen this elusive partner. The blacksmith has to be lying, right? So the baker's son hops on his horse and follows the path into the woods.
The blacksmith is far ahead, navigating the trees like a pro. The trees seem (6/?)

"I'm in love with you," the baker's son says, clasping the blacksmith's calloused hands in his own. "Please, I want to be your lover."
The blacksmith just shakes his head sadly and smiles. "I'm afraid I'm taken. Thank you for the offer, however."
When the blacksmith leaves on his horse that (5/?)

-glowing golden eyes. Elders claim it's a demon, adults claim it's some sort of animal, teens think it's a ghost, children believe it's a lost soul.
When asked his opinion, the blacksmith just smiles fondly and says it must be magic.
One day, the baker's son decides to approach the blacksmith (4/?)

-the village.
It's odd. He's odd. He appeared without a trace one day years ago and now he hasn't left. His partner is never seen, many are convinced that the partner doesn't exist.
Shortly after the blacksmith arrived, sightings of a creature start to occur. A tall, tree-like figure with (3/?)

He never talks to many, but when you can get him to talk to you he talks endlessly about his partner. He lights up in a way that he never does otherwise.
The local children often dare each other to follow him to his cabin, but they never make it. They always get lost and end up right back in (2/?)

The first thing I did when I saw this was show it to my roommate because your art is sooooooo yummy. She loved it as much as I did though I might love it more because I'm still thinking about this hours later. I'm, like, actually obsessed
