I swear by staples electronics cleaner. It's a can of air that u blow in your fans to get dust out. Mostly it helps with laptops but if your fans look dusty maybe give it a try.

While I can't think of an example where a g has changed from hard to soft or vice versa, there's no reason why that can't happen.

At this point I might keep this up to learn more about the language.
My last point is that the majority dictates how a word is pronounced. For examples: garage being pronounced differently in England and the US, and aluminum losing an i along with being pronounced differently across the pond

Well if gif supposedly uses the soft pronunciation then why would gift, a very similar word, use the hard pronunciation?
