Pitch Card

29 year old Alec Mays and his younger sister Marigold, are thrusted into a deadly competition when a distant cousin dies, and so with her the magical force that keeps the Riftlands at bay. And while Alec is trying to get them home, Marigold is determined to stay and prove she is their savior, despite Alec housing the Flame - an impossible feat as the Flame has only been passed through the women of his bloodline since the kingdom's inception a millennium ago.
Alec wants to
return home, but Marigold, determined to prove herself, challenges him in a series of brutal Trials for the crown. As court and magical dangers rise, Alec must battle his demons-and his sister-to save them both.

Climbing to feet, Alec slowly made his way to the portal. In the time it took to handle that thing, the glow was basically nonexistent. Shaking his shoulders, he mentaling berated himself, before jumping into the dimming circle.
It was mass of techonocolor and darkness; of a cacophony of voice and utter silence. There were times when Alec felt like he was being torn into several directions and forced to push his limbs inside his body. He tried to reach out to grab on to roots or rope or something, every time he stretched out his hands, cold wet swirls of nothingness chilled his fingers.
Finally, a sudden surge of warm light assaulted his senses and Alec was unceremoniously dropped onto soft grass and hard packed earth. Groaning, he opened his eyes, wincing them shut against a harsh light of an afternoon sun. He blinked slowly, sitting up. His body was sore all over as he tried to shield his eyes from the headache inducing light.
It had been night a second ago. Maybe magical portals don't
share time zones or something. He looked around, amazed. The forest looked more...forest. It was hard to describe it at the moment, but Alec was sure of it. It seemed healthier, more
vibrant and lush. Kinda like it had a glow around it.
It could just be because of the head injury he was sure he had.
