Incredible fun last night with The Twenty-Sided Tavern at the Balboa Theater! Acting/improv, quality D&D play, audience participation ridiculousness. If you’re a D&D nerd at all, it’s a must-see. Probably pretty funny for anybody, really, but that audience was totally nerdalicious.

Not sure how I pulled off this surprise! Got my wife (whose favorite film is Almost Famous) all the way into Cameron Crowe’s book tour show (special guest Kate Hudson!) without her having any idea where we were going.

Cutting loose next Monday with the new act we’ve been working up.

It’s not considered a “classic” or foundational to anything, but by far my favorite Muddy Waters album is Muddy, Brass & the Blues.

14 months ago I canceled my Sunday newspaper delivery. 2 months ago they finally stopped delivering (hey, I’ll take a free paper). This morning: a paper on my lawn.

A life well lived: the family is gathering in Paso Robles this weekend to spread my father-in-law’s ashes, and one of the wineries we’re going to visit asked us to bring a photo of him that they can put on their ofrenda this year.

There are so much worse things going on, but I just have to say that I get so sick seeing those rooms in the White House, the American people’s house, that now look like a leprechaun had diarrhea in a Hobby Lobby.

Spending July 4 with Frederick Douglass, if you know what I mean.

I know a lot of people discount Ain’t Love Grand as an X album, but seriously, What’s Wrong With Me is an all-time X banger.

So my son requested installation of the portable AC in his room tonight. Welcome to summer, San Diego.

Friday the 13th! My wife’s birthday is a 13th, and we had parties for her themed around that: broken mirrors, black cats, spilled salt, etc. We set a ladder up so you had to go under it to enter, and people climbed the outside of the stairs by the railing to avoid going under. It was hilarious.

Jury duty today and I decided to walk the 4 miles downtown to the courthouse just because I can. Heard a rooster crow in my neighborhood. Yeah, city law allows neighborhood chickens but not roosters, but I’m not narcing on that. Good morning indeed.

My wife decided she wanted to see Sinners, knowing almost nothing about it except people told her it was great. So happy to go again, and also be able to talk about it!

Some people like to say there is no such thing as a perfect movie. They are wrong.

Sorry to be so slow, y’all, but Sammie’s father in Sinners is played by the same Saul Williams that I saw open for Nine Inch Nails? Well, that’s range.

San Diegans! Please keep your eye out for this mailer and mail in the protest form. Someone decided to take that new revenue stream we voted for and make expensive changes to the program instead of charging us our piece of the status quo. Let’s send them back to the drawing board to get this right.

Damn, y’all. Sinners. Don’t read anything, don’t look anything up, just go see it. Do it now. And don’t leave when the credits start.

Saw the new Neil Young documentary last night, which included footage from the show I was at. Slow, gentle pace, but once you get in the vibe it’s so beautiful.

Seems dumb for Trump to recklessly break things in a way that hurts Republican states and Republican voters until you understand that "make it so that asking me personally is the only way to fix anything" is the entire point.

Holy shit, y’all. I have a friend who’s sometimes cool but also fucked up with conspiracy crap. He tried to drop that “Michelle Obama is a man” bullshit on me without knowing that I graduated from college with her. The backpedaling was unbelievable.

After reading everyone’s praise for the SNL50 music montage I didn’t think it could possibly measure up, but holy shit. That is a knockout. A fitting tribute and a classic in its own right.

Had some time to kill so I dropped into a theater and watched Presence. Not sure how I feel about it, but there’s almost nothing I could say that would not be a spoiler in either a positive or negative sense.
