I was recently in Europe. Headlines from a French business magazine and the UK’s The Economist.

Inside headline in The Weekend Australian. Trump is good at destroying things. Raises the question, has he ever created something with enduring value? I can’t think of anything. Most of his creations have been abject failures.

For several hours this afternoon I visited the exhibit “Spinifex People: Art and stories from Pila Nguru” at the Western Australian Museum Boola Bardip in Perth, Australia. It gave me a break from the outside world. The exhibit is phenomenal. Below is the Kulyuru (2022) by Lennard Walker.

At first I thought this was a joke. It’s a full page ad in today’s The Weekend Australian for a new political party called the Trumpet of Patriots, patterned after Trump. Really. And the chairman is the Queensland businessman Clive Palmer. Just weird.

This morning I went on a long run on this trail, the Wadandi Track, from Margaret River to Cowaramup, Western Australia. It was a relief to take a break (mostly) from thinking about the chaos, cruelty, and dysfunction underway in the U.S. The trail is so beautiful and a balm for the soul.

Can’t the U.S. Capitol have restrooms like this? It’s not that hard to do! The sign is outside restrooms at the Seattle (US) airport.

Will this apply to Hegseth, given his right wing nationalist tattoos? Article is in today’s local newspaper (Fairbanks Daily News-Miner) in Fairbanks, Alaska. Dan Sullivan, one of Alaska’s Senators, voted for Hegseth’s confirmation.

Current temperature (F) & conditions in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is not normal, at least not till recently. January is the coldest month high with average daytime high of ~3F (-16C). Dangerous wet ice now on many roads. I saw a man with an umbrella while he carefully tried to cross an intersection.
