A standard USB-C port sounds good, but they aren't standard. There's a plethora of protocols for data transmission (from USB-2 to 4, Thunderbolt 3 to 5) and charging (to over 100 watts). The problem is that not all cables support all protocols, but they all look pretty much the same.
