Thrilled to share that our latest research on breaking the symmetry of designed protein cages has been featured on the cover of Protein Science's special issue on Protein Design!

Inspired by Hilma af Klint's The Swan, No. 8, the cover illustrates how we break the symmetry of a previously symmetric protein cage, pushing the boundaries of protein-based assemblies and expanding the design space. In the image there is a group of protein cages distributed radially with a bigger one in the center of the image. The protein cage core is symmetric, but overall it is asymmetric, as it has a subunit (depicted in purple) that breaks the symmetry.
