The day after the 2016 election was one of my most memorable days as a teacher. I taught AP English at PVHS. Of course, some of these students were undocumented and/or had undocumented family. They were shaken, stunned, sobbing. So I abandoned my lesson plan and just let students talk. They took turns sharing their stories, their feelings, and their fears. It was like that every period. The next day, some of these same students organized a protest and hundreds of students marched out of the school and down the main street in our town to a park where they held a rally with speakers. But this year, it was entirely different. Nobody said a word about it and school went on as usual. I was very surprised, and more than a bit sad.
