I respect your decision to not use X/Twitter much anymore, but a situation arose that may concern you, about the development of Doom. Sandy Petersen recently made some statements that John Romero disagrees with about the former’s contributions to Doom.

In 1993 l joined id Software. There was a Doom Bible written by Tom Hall, but I only ever got a brief skim of it. I think it was used by the artists and John Romero to some extent, but I didn't really access it. One of my jobs was actually to write the Doom manual. As part of that I had to name all the enemies. I didn't stretch my brain too far. I mean "Zombie" wasn't a tough call. I changed the "Bruiser Brothers" to "Hell Barons" so there's that. But I also had to create the Doom guy's backstory. I wrote about five entire pages of story, I discussed his previous career, why he was now embittered, what the corporate experiments on Phobos were about, and so forth. Then I started cutting back on the story. I thought it was too much, and who cared anyway? In the end, the final backstory I have is just 2 sentences. You show up on Phobos and there's monsters. But really, what else do you need? I view this as my greatest contribution to digital gaming. If you want to read text, get a book. Anyway if you love backstory, I'm the bad guy here.
