After this season Kat has 3 years making ~$60 million, which is harder to move with the new cba. By making the trade earlier, a team (i.e. knicks) can go on a run when Kat’s contract isn’t as much of a roster building handicap
Why does a star have to come via trade. Why not develop Dilly, TSJ, Naz?

Regardless, I think optimizing roster flexibility for Ant’s prime given second apron was the right move. Does financial flexibility feel good when losing someone like Kat? No. But we’ve seen moves around the edges win championships. Moving Kat after this year would’ve been harder imo.

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but I think you’re underestimating how much playmaking we lost with Conley + no slowmo. Conley’s shooting too. With Dillingham, we are dangerous offensively + Donte shooting and Randle bully ball. as clunky as Randle’s been, he’s was gelling pretty well before the injury
