I Love St. Louis ❤️

We haven’t had a King in this country since 1776 and we sure as hell aren’t going back now.

Last night in Chicago, Vice President Kamala Harris just gave me the pep talk and advice I never knew I needed. 🥹

Our generation is ready to lead and I couldn’t be more grateful for her passion for our country and the trail she’s blazed through for all of us.

As I said on @MSNBC: Being young isn’t a barrier, it’s about meeting the moment with hope, urgency, and vision. ✨

The good fight isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

Earlier this week after session, I spent some time with my friend and California’s speaker of the House, Robert Rivas.

Speaker Rivas couldn’t have been more gracious and the California state Capitol couldn’t be more beautiful— innovation happens in California and I can’t wait for what’s to come.

Investing in the next generation of democrats, means investing in Jeremy Dean— He’s one of the smartest, kindest, and toughest people I know.

The road to breaking the GOP supermajority runs through Springfield. Let’s keep him in the fight!

More on this later but… I’ll be spending a lot of time this summer in rural districts explaining the concept of the “okie-doke” and who’s really fighting for the working class (Hint: its not republicans).

Democrats have a story to tell, just gotta tell it.

When you really came from St. Louis.
Raised in St. Louis.
You feel like you trailblaze for St. Louis.

I love where I’m from and I’ll do everything in my power to fight for it.

I wake up everyday thinking about what’s best for St. Louis.

I ran for office so that other young people, especially young black kids, could see themselves in their government and understand that they have a stake in everything that goes on in the capitol building.

They’re what keeps me going.

It’s an honor to welcome my friend, and @democrats.org chairman Ken Martin back to St. Louis!

Democrats are competing everywhere and I’m so proud to be in this good fight! Let’s get to work!

Missouri is a former slave state— It’s an honor to walk in this building everyday.

Happy Black History Month.

Growing up black, you hear throughout your life all the things that you’re not. Now, I can say with certainty what I am: A member of the House of Representatives.

Happy Black History Month.

Had a great time having coffee this morning with my former boss and friend Governor Nixon. Everyday it’s a blessing to serve our communities and I’m so thankful for his leadership and wisdom.

Got into some good trouble on the front lawn of the capitol 🫶🏽

Republicans are waging culture wars and placing marginalized communities on the front lines.

Let me be clear— We will not abandon trans kids. You’re not invisible. We see you. I promise we will fight for you. 🫶🏽

10 years ago, I was in high school writing about Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird.

Now, I’m a member of the Missouri House of Representatives and while many want to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion, I invite them to study the teachings of Atticus Finch.

A hope of mine when I ran for office was that young people, especially young black men, and everyone else who knows what it feels like to be left out, can see themselves in their government.

I want each of them to know that they have a stake in everything that goes on here.

While today may seem dark, it is our duty to lead with light.

Tonight marks the last evening a Democrat will occupy the White House for a little while. I know many are feeling a mix of emotions—disappointment, anxiety, and uncertainty about what lies ahead. Know this: We are not defeated.

We are not powerless, and we are never beyond hope.

Being in the Governor’s office was the privilege of a lifetime. I’ve learned so much from Governor Nixon. It was great to have him visit my office this morning.
