yeah I think this is pretty accurate. I always try to be generous towards them cause a lot of them are just regular people who are aimless and venting. but it's bad to attach this thinking to a larger audience/conversation, it's irresponsible posting to do so.

On Assad, he is evil and a monumental human rights disaster. Some of the videos coming out of prisons that I've been looking at with literal toddlers are sickening, and so I wouldn't care if he died tomorrow.

I don't really agree that what I was trying to describe here in particular is extortion. Even still, I think "sabotage our chances in the election" and "extortion" are a weird way to describe the broader situation. This is just an issue some voters cared about. Political activism is pretty regular.

well, if normies hate that we're spending time there and want to stop hearing about it, and leftists hate that we're spending time there and want it to stop, seems like you can get 2 birds with one stone by withholding weapons. which probably explains why the democrats didn't do it

if the average American doesn't like that we spend too much time in the middle east like the OP says, that puts the leftist position relatively in line with the average position. which means they were with the room more successfully than the Democrats were, so uhhhh.....
