I hadn't heard of this before now. I think I'm going to check it out because I was thinking of making a video about this very topic whenever I get through the Core Design Tomb Raider games. I've been reading the Book of the Dead (Budge's translation) for this reason.

There's a lot of interesting things games have done to convey characterization and storytelling wholefully unique to the medium, such as how the location of the life bar in Def Jam FFNY changes when the player character begins to view themselves as a villain in the middle of the game.

Whenever you do get around to finishing Yotei, I hope you enjoy the video. I go over a little bit about Japanese history, the game's mechanics and difficulty design, etc.

It was a great game and a fun video to work on.
