It was an objectively bad vote. But valuing empty symbolism over building long term, durable power is for liberals, & the left should be smarter. The “two things can be true” lesson is that the left needs to better keep its electeds disciplined AND it should stop taking this divide and conquer bait.

An amendment that had no chance of passing but would be replayed endlessly by centrist liberals trying to sabotage her, more aggressively than anything the DNC did to Bernie in 2016 and 2020, if AOC had voted yes?

Honestly, the discourse around AOC on the extremely online (but rarely organizing) left, going back to when podcasters got mad about “force the vote” in 2021, is giving COINTELPRO vibes. We’re on the verge of getting a socialist mayor in NYC so we’re fighting about a procedural vote on an amendment?
