yes & the original post is carefully phrased in terms of writing advice, which gets me thinking about how we talk about (& teach) writing, both of which focus too often on what we should avoid rather than what’s possible when we remove limitations or come up with better constraints

feel a similar way about the proscription of mixed metaphors, which is sorta like ruling out word play & double entendre

‘pick a tense (preferably present) and stick with it’ feels like training wheels that really limit where you can ride
