Hikawa hates them all and leaves often but always comes back because he’s legit a terrible person and nobody else can stand dating him. He’s not hot enough for his looks to compensate for his personality.

Whenever he does have friends, he over-analyzes every interaction out of fear of losing them and struggles not to assume the worst. I think he sees solitude as the safest option. He doesn’t necessarily hate people, he just uses that as a mask for his fear of attachment and abandonment issues.

He rejects human connection being worthwhile because he’s terrified of losing those he cares about after getting attached and doesn’t want that feeling for others either. He doesn’t want to feel the pain that comes from caring about others because it hurts, even if deep down he wants community.
