Does my car qualify for having the ability to “drop a gear and disappear?”

@regularcars.bsky.social I have these two. Chalk and cheese and that’s how I like it. But I’m in Australia, so if you’re coming back down here, and Brisbane is on your itinerary…

My new car is a bit bigger than my Austin.

I certainly wasn’t planning on buying two new cars in as many months, but fate twisted my hand when I was written off while parked. The new car is a hell of an upgrade!

Here’s a bin chicken in its natural habitat - anywhere and everywhere. I was less than a metre away when I took this photo, they’re not afraid of anything.

A two day blackout thanks to storms, mum bought me this as a very early Christmas present. It’s awesome. It’ll probably run the fridge for a good 16 hours, and even if it doesn’t, it’ll charge at up to 500W from solar/DC, or nearly 1kW from the wall if you ask it to. Full charge in about an hour!

Where I used to live backed onto a nature reserve, and we’d get loads of bush turkeys roaming the place. We also have millions of ibises around the place (the white ones), otherwise known as bin chickens or tip turkeys, because they love scavenging in garbage. You couldn’t kill them with an axe.

Here’s an example of why the megapixel race in smartphones is daft. The camera I shot this photo on is now nearly 20 years old (I still have it, too) and has a 10 megapixel sensor.

All the megapixels and computational photography in the world won’t beat having good glass in front of the sensor.

Who wants to come for a ride? It’s comfy and cozy in here!

This arrived today, making my dream of owning an old car come true. I’m fairly sure that somewhere a monkey’s paw just curled, but we’ll deal with that as it comes.

Well, tomorrow’s weather is shaping up to be another very interesting day. Too bad I’ll be at work, though.

At the local makerspace last night. I’m like a gas, I expand to fill the space I’m in.

Also, a “tomorrow” problem.

Newer trains are harder to notice, though, as they keep all the lights on for up to a few seconds, which is usually enough time to clear the section. You’ll still get the two pops though, as the circuit breaker opens and closes again, which is controlled by magnets on the track. Interesting stuff.

And I’ve just paid off the last of this. George will be home next weekend. It’s literally my wildest dream come true. I couldn’t be more excited!

@professorscritch.bsky.social This made me think of you. I pass it when I get the train to the city, and considering how all fares are 50 cents, is surprisingly often.

…friends finding out what you get up to when they’re not around. Also, I crunched the numbers, with the caveat that I’ve been sitting on these screenshots for a while. If you slept an ordinary length of time at night, then by the time you made this many posts, you amassed 15 posts an hour…

Having trouble remembering? Worry not, I have more! I can do this all day if I really wanted, but I have to get back to work soon.

If you would like your lifestyle of surviving off the hard work of others to continue, it might be wise to clean up your act, especially if you don’t want your…

It’s nice to dust off the camera every once in a while. I’m gonna do it more often.

I bought a thing! I’m among the first people in the world to have a Raspberry Pi 500+, it just got released a few days ago. Hadn’t even turned it on and I already love it. It’s very serviceable! 5 Philips head machine screws (no self-tappers to wear out), a long keyboard flex, and SSD thumbscrew)…

What’s more terrifying: a van with “free candy” written on the side, or this?

This weekend at the ham radio club…

It’s for talking to geostationary satellites, which are about 36,000km above the earth’s surface. This particular application has been made obsolete by Starlink.

Last weekend I finally moved into my own place. I need to keep this job to afford it but I absolutely love it. Hopefully, everything’s coming up Milhouse.

Say hello to George, my first vintage car. I’m paying him off over 6 months, and he’s coming home. It’s a dream come true. It all hinges on me keeping my new job, but they keep giving me shifts so I think I’ll be ok there.

I can’t wait until he’s in my driveway!

Well, after 46 years of service, that’s a wrap for Brisbane’s electric multiple units. The EMUs were the first electric and first air conditioned trains in Brisbane, having started service in 1979. I grew up on these trains and I’m going to miss them.

Videos coming soonish.
