Daily walk…. This year the National Trust decided to allow good dogs on leads into their gardens… my local NT property has become our daily lunchtime walk.

A rare selfie. I try and spend a couple of hours in the workshop everyday in the summer sanding sticks…. These last couple of weeks it’s been extremely hot wearing a respirator and running two dust extractors! It’s a glamourous life making magical tools! Definitely living my swampwitch identity.

“When gorse is out of blossom, kissings out of fashion”. Gorse has a long flowering season, so usually somewhere gorse is in blossom… mine flowers in spring. A wee baby gorse appeared in the flowerbed a few years back - likely a gift from a bird, and I let it stay….. the bees love it!

The cherry plum blossom is fully out - and stunning, especially against the blue sky (when we have some). In the sun, the orchard is alive with the buzzing bees from the hives, the delicate scent fills the air. Spring is coming!

New! Hare necklace - because who doesn’t love hares? A little brass hare charm hangs from a necklace of vintage wooden, glass and stone beads.

Signs of spring my hellebores have had 5 years to settle in and are really spectacular this year. They actually started flowering in early December and seem to be reaching their peak now. The last few days have been gloriously sunny during the day with hard frosts at night.

Sometimes I make words as well as art. What seems like an age ago (nearly 2 years I think) I wrote an essay on wisdom @fiogedeparma and @janemeredithauthor’s Pearl Pentacle book. My box of contributors copies arrived a couple of days ago. Order your copy now (ideally from independent book stores)….

What a difference some blue sky and sun makes…. After what feels like months of cold, rain and grey we’ve had some sun. My crocuses are enjoying it and the cherry plum orchard is blooming - several weeks later than last year.

Small beauties: The sun is shining today and the cherry plum blossom is beginning to bloom. It’s later this year than usual. The world is scary right now, and I am reinvigorating a long held practice of seeking small beauties in the world around me to remind me of joy. What about you?

I saw a kingfisher today for only the third time in my life…. Hanging out by the pond that I walk past everyday with the hound. I hope it will stick around, although I’m not sure there are any fish in the pond…. Only rare newts. Hmmm.

Merry Christmas to those who are celebrating today! Happy Hanukkah! Happy Holidays! Hail the return of the sun…. The weather today has been a little less than seasonal…. Warm enough to leave the front door open for a short while for the hound to sunbath (wrapped in his fleece of course).

The merest hint of a rainbow - out walk started with blue sky, then dark grey rain clouds and then back to blue sky - a good stiff breeze and I am rather windswept! Off to the workshop now to work on the pile of sticks I’ve been bringing home after each walk. Thanks storms!

Up on the ridge of the hill that I can see from home are gorgeous woods with meandering paths some of which take you out of the woods to look over the valley…. There, overlooking the valley is the Throne of the Oak King…. We found it after a long and muddy adventure (there’s a much quicker route).

Bert (the storm that is) took most of the remaining by leaves, leaving the branches bare and the thorn thickets a gorgeous tangle of ferocious beauty as the sun begins to set.

Recently finished and available via the usual link - both sustainable English Oak offcuts from a local craft business, pyrogrqphed and finished with food safe tung oil - perfect for altars, but also rather excellent for cheese!

Reflections: it’s the time of year for flooding - and we’ve had a lot in the last few days - storm Bert over the weekend left us with a lot of extra water…. There’s pools in the fields and orchard where usually there are non…. Beautiful though, I love the drowned leaves and reflections of branches.
