Pokemon Legends: Z-A

Probably the objectively best game since BW2. It seems GF has realized that they can appeal to older fans without sacrificing the kid-friendly core of the series. I'm feeling truly optimistic about Pokemon's future, finally.

Kiosk

Very neat little game. Maybe it's just my low tolerance for horror games, but it's EXTREMELY good at building an incredibly unnerving atmosphere. It really takes advantage of the PS1 styling, rather than using it as dressing. Amusingly, the physics-based cooking is genuinely very fun.

From a Whisper to a Scream

Not bad all around, though the first story is easily the best and most horrific one. It's clear that the writers had never been to Tennessee in their lives, as evidenced by the ICONIC Tennessee bayou featured in the second story. Some really nice SFX in some scenes.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 (100% replay)

While I do still quite like this game, this replay left me really honed in on its biggest weakness, that being that it largely drops SMG1's most unique elements and themes in favor of being a more typical Mario game. Still great, just in a different way.

Hell House LLC (with @skylucario.bsky.social!)

Good, mostly. It doesn't fall into a lot of the tropes found footage is notorious for, and actually *feels* like found footage rather than a regular movie. It's dragged down by the last 15-20 minutes, where it honestly just gets silly.

TLoZ: The Wind Waker (NSO)

While WW is the greatest video game ever made (something we can all agree on, of course), this is the worst way to play it. The NSO GC input lag makes aiming and moving frustrating, and there's frequent z-fighting not present in the original. Stick to GameCube or Wii U.

Death of a Unicorn

I like this concept a lot, but it doesn't quite land. It doesn't succeed at juggling the competing tones and leaves the movie feeling very confused, even if there are some good jokes. Will Poulter was a highlight, but they really wasted Paul Rudd here. Bizarre casting decision.

Donkey Kong Bananza 100%

Ape game peak. The big budget in-house game that DK has always deserved, and a hell of a start to the Switch 2. Climbing sucks, but there's really not much else to criticize here. A perfect return to the spotlight for DK after far too long.

The Monkey

Great movie. Very creative and intense deaths mixed with genuinely funny moments of levity give it a very unique, unsettling atmosphere. The cinematography, set design, and editing are all great too; there are some very cool shots, and I love the colors.

F4: First Steps

Another superhero pleasant surprise. Leading up to release, this movie seemed like it was a desperate attempt at pulling favor, but it's actually a very solid, very heartfelt adaptation of the source material that focused on telling a story that could stand on its own. Loved it.

FFXVI

From the bottom of my heart: fuck this game.
I wanted to love it, I truly did, but it's one of the worst game experiences I've ever had. There are moments of (empty) spectacle worth admiring, but they're lost amongst hours of a bland Frankenstein's monster of a game.

Superman (2025)

What a pleasant surprise. Even though I generally like Gunn's movies, I was expecting this to get mired in executive mandates and turn out just as subpar as most DCEU movies. Thankfully, I was wrong, and this is actually pretty good. Perhaps there is a bright future for DC movies.

Mickey 17

Damn is this good. I don't think I should talk about it too much, as there's something of a misdirect with this movie that needs to stay intact. Pattinson is obviously amazing, but everybody else also absolutely kills it. My favorite movie so far this year.

Novocaine

Definitely not for the faint of heart, but I really liked this movie. Great action scenes, good pace, funny writing. As long as you go into it expecting nothing more than a fun action comedy, you'll have a great time. Jack Quaid continues to be an accurate indicator of quality projects.

Thunderbolts

Really good. Bucky is sick (as always), US Agent is a massive douche (as he should be), and I actually really liked Yelena (surprisingly). You-know-who is also a MAJOR step up from the comic book version, I actually really like them. Best MCU movie since Guardians 3.

Speak No Evil (2024)

I absolutely hate this movie, and that's a good thing. Probably the most accurate depiction of anxiety I've ever seen in movie. If you're able to stomach "uncomfortable" horror, I 100% recommend this (especially if you have an anxiety disorder).

Daredevil (Netflix) (rewatch)

God, this show is so good. Easily top five superhero TV/film adaptations. The backend of S2 is a little shaky, but S1 and S3 are so fucking GOOD man. Genuinely fantastic television.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (rewatch #4)

Probably my favorite show of all time. It so perfectly nails my sense of humor that I don't think there'll ever be anything else quite like it. Even if the rot is setting in, I still absolutely adore this show and always will. HIGHLY recommend.

IASIP S13-16

This is where the show gets hit or miss, largely because it starts to feel a little indulgent. I understand wanting to do what *you* wanna do after making the same show for nearly 20 years, but I think the quality has suffered for it. Still love it, but the luster has faded a bit.

IASIP S8-12

This era feels like a remix of the previous one, in a good way. Taking the elements that worked so well and putting new spins on them, making for some really iconic episodes. Some of the ideas don't quite land, but the good FAR outweighs the bad. Experimental, mostly for the better.

IASIP S4-7

This is the chunk that *is* Always Sunny. When I think of the show, I find that it's this era that really defines it for me. Not because of specific episodes or jokes, but because the general style is just perfect. The Gang Gets Trapped is probably my favorite episode of the whole show.

IASIP S1-3

As far as early seasons of shows go, these stand out. Even if the show hasn't quite found itself yet, the distinct flavor of Always Sunny is still here and there are great episodes throughout. Very much feels like a group of friends making a show for the fun of it, which is a good thing.

Pikmin 2 (replay #?)

Always been my favorite, and probably always will be. BUT, I get why some people hate it. It's janky, it's frustrating, it's outright bullshit at times, but there's just something about it, man. Captured my heart as a wee lad, and I love it to death to this day.
