This was the first part of work I was involved with for the @lincolnswans.bsky.social Project. The Lincoln Swan Project and many other ringing projects success are dependent on community scientists reporting birds. We have fantastic project data collectors and are always looking for more 🦢.
New paper!! First paper from @lincolnswans.bsky.social validating data from our amazing Lincoln Swan Project community scientists available open access here: rdcu.be/d63kG. Great also to have five undergraduate students as co-authors - all worked with the swans for projects or summer internships 😊

Today our volunteers attended this swan in Lincoln, who had been avoiding capture for several days with fishing line tightly embedded around one leg. Thankfully the bird was swiftly caught without the need of our rescue boat, much to the relief of all concerned.

Over the next 2 months you'll see swan pairs on nests. If photographing a nest please keep a safe distance to avoid disturbing the swans. Please also be careful if you choose to share the photo on social media, avoid providing a location. We are looking forward to the arrival of this year's cygnets!

This young swan required some help after making a poor landing decision - onto the roof of a Pizza Hut restaurant! Thankfully uninjured, the animal was able to be released a short time later, following rescue by one of our volunteers.

Our rescuers recently assisted this swan, after noticing the bird had swallowed a length of fishing line, that had become looped over the top of the bird’s beak and causing a tight restriction.

A new swan arrival today from Torksey, found with a nasty injury to the bird’s face. Thankfully, an x-ray has found no evidence of an embedded projectile, as first feared. The animal is now undergoing further treatment here in our care, where we expect a full recovery.

This very lucky bird is currently recovering with us, after being hit by vehicle on the busy A46.

The driver contacted Lincolnshire Police who kindly attended, keeping both the animal and passing motorists safe until our rescuers arrived a short time later.
