Dublin, CA—On April 16, 2025, Interfaith leaders and community activists gathered at the gates of FCI Dublin women's prison to reject plans to turn the facility into an ICE detention center. They called for permanent closure of the notorious prison. @detentionwatchnetwork.org

As HB 853 has a Senate hearing today, I would like to remind our audience that although Maryland had the largest free Black population in the 19th c., it currently has the highest incarceration rate for Black people, most of whom would not be imprisoned if they lived in other NATO countries.
