The fluffer to the left slipped this mortal coil yesterday. Much love and sadness was in the wake of his passing. He was one of the good ones for sure. 💔

The one that got my tulip bulbs—dammit

And 36 years later, having worked at that institution for 5 years, then a nursing home, then a hospital after getting my RN, then psych, then home care hospice, then care coordination…I’m a case manager in the ED of a major Boston hospital. I love my job, most of my previous jobs too. Who knew.

So I took an exam, did well, and in September 1988 entered nursing school. Never once, ever, had I previously considered becoming a nurse. I was interested in psychology, or reading and writing. Nobody in my family was in healthcare in any capacity. They were surprised, but tentatively supportive…

And got a job. It was a state job, decent pay, excellent benefits. After a year they were looking for staff to go to nursing school, on their dime, and commit to a year after passing the boards. The kicker was, during school (9-11 month program for LPN), you’d get paid 40 hrs for 20 hrs work…

And then this—I was willing to travel to Norway for this, but it came to my hometown instead
