Yuval Noah Harari writes about the "story" of money as the most persuasive lie humans hold in consensus as true. chimpanzees act cooperatively in many ways that demonstrate consensus values, but no chimpanzee would ever give another a banana in exchange for pieces of paper with words on it.

"our fascists" in the US have been at work undermining education since Reagan, science since Bush1 and health since Bush2...in between the opposition reinstated budgets and top level admins but the damage is done. it's this slow quiet erosion that set the stage for accepting AI with awe.

Rapacious greed, blind hatred, and aggrandized delusion have lit and fanned fires where they ignite, and ignite them at will. Their smoke onscures the stars, but the stars will continue to shine, hiding from no one. It's on us to douse the flames, or live in the dark.
