My first dog was a German Shepherd named Max. Such a smart boy. Then came a Mastiff named Sophie, Mickey, a Great Dane, another Dane, Schautten. Then Duke the Golden Retriever. The last 20 years I’ve had all pitbull-types: Diva, Stewie, Barney, and currently, Margie and Penny. Dogs make a family.

Here is a pretty verbena peaking out of the side of a planter on my deck. It’s one of my favorite flowers so I grew them from seed this year. #flowerpower #bloomscrolling

A monarch butterfly, a brilliant orange outlined in black lines, and studded with white polka dots, feeds on a common milkweed. The milkweeds’ oval green leaves are the background for the pinky-purplish blooms. There is a bee sipping nectar on the bloom right next to the butterfly, and a little milkweed beetle at the top of the frame perched on a leaf.
