American Goshawk, "Purple 2U" (color band not visible) is at least 9 years old. Banded in 2018 as full adult. She has successfully raised young in all but 1 year since 2018, almost always having 3 offspring. Can't wait to meet up with her again in June. #Birds #RaptorResearch #addBirder

I am glad that I evicted the invasive squirrels yesterday, as a Western Screech-owl decided to check out my nest box this morning. They checked it out last year, but didn't end up using it, although they spent more than a couple months in our yard after they fledged! #birds #birdsOfPrey #Owls

White-headed and Hairy Woodpeckers sharing a branch. The Hairy was clearly dominant marching the White-headed off of the branch. This was consistent with my other observations of these two species interacting. April 2015, Boise National Forest, Idaho, USA.
