Disagree a tiny bit. Even experienced communicators can leave something out inadvertently especially with a tough question. It's possible he just screwed up. I don't know about reasonably likely, but reasonably possible.

Agreed. Should have just said, "nobody can be called generational until after 15 years but it definitely could happen!". An extra 5 seconds could have saved him 5 months of grief.

Don't discount the public's appreciation of honest critical analysis. It's needed. Jay's FO has changed internally since 2022, and that in turn, has led to certain voices gaining influence with Ross, leading to various controversial moves.
