❗These findings underscore the importance of early screening of refugees upon arrival & the need for expanding treatment interventions to prevent a negative spiral of worsening outcomes over time.

2️⃣ More than half of the sample was exposed to violence before fleeing, which was a significant predictor of mental illness and socioeconomic outcomes during exile.

3️⃣ Depression was associated with worse socioeconomic outcomes, including lower incomes and a less diverse diet.

1️⃣ High prevalence of depressive symptoms (31%) and functional impairment (62%) among refugees.

This prevalence was higher than that found among the host population living in the same contexts (10% for depression and 25% for functional impairment).
