WHY? @unity.com
So, why in Unity 6.2 would you remove the systems that make Unity EASIER to teach? Like the legacy Input System?
I realize that I sound like Grampa Simpson... still, Unity should get BETTER, not harder to teach.
I've been using Unity for 15yrs & teaching it for over 12yrs.

WHY? @unity.com
I DO NOT have time to teach these more complicated topics in a semester:
-Animation, Animator & Visual Node Graph
-UGUI
-UI Toolkit
-New Input System
-Shaders
-Particles
-NavMesh
-TextMesh Pro

Haha, jam ended in July. I made it 100% system independent. You can play it with characters from any system at pretty much any level of power.

I've tried teaching GITHUB to students - NEVER again. Instead I now use my own webhosting for SVN repos, TortoiseSVN for Windows & Command Line & then the amazing WiseSVN tool so students do all operations with locking in the editor. No branching or merging. 😎

If you aren't already using Unity Playmode Tinting - do yourself a favor and go to Edit > Preferences > Colors > Playmode tint and set it to a pink or purple so you never make a mistake and do edits while in PLAY again.

I would switch to the New Unity Input system - but have 15-years of code using the old Input system. The old Input system is also WAY easier to teach. So, I enable Both in Edit > Project Settings > Player > Active Input Handling* (and ignore the warning)

I teach GameDev in college - but, learning UGUI or now GUI Toolkit can take weeks and still only barely learn all the tricks and details. So I teach students to use quads with sprites/textures for buttons or backgrounds and use OnMouseDown() or Input.GetKeyDown() or Input.GetButtonDown() in scripts.

I almost always solve my GameDev issues in code... but occasionally you might want to solve a problem in Blender... still I rather use ProBuilder or UMotion (FREE or $70 paid, but on sale for $35 right now)...

I kinda avoid using the Unity animation node graph system at all. I prefer using something like Animancer Lite FREE (or paid)... but there is also a handy way to "Animate like a Programmer"... this works in 2D or 3D, like a champ...

I stopped using Unity terrain a few years ago. Now I just make a tessellated box or plane and paint the height data on with PolyBrush. I can optimize and have more control (terrain inside a box or sphere on any surface) than I can with Unity's bloated and ancient terrain tools.

I'll also use Unity's own ProBuilder to build custom meshes edit meshes I download. Still, some tricks are just easier in Primitives Pro than ProBuilder.

I like making stuff out of capsules - or truncated capsules - but I've got to move the pivot. For that I use Primitives Pro (sorry $15)... then fix the pivot with my last post...

I can see that this year's #OnePageRPGJam / #1pgRPGjam theme "GROWTH" has inspired similar results from many of us. I'm loving all these wonderful giant monster games.
