Did I say the last Double Delight rose of the season? The rosebush said, "Hold my beer..."🌱🌱🌱

This orchid doesn't usually bloom until January or February. My plants are so confused.🌱🌱🌱

Lots of these guys in the garden this week. We're getting the irrigation set up in the new greenhouse and one plant (the orchid cactus) has moved in. 🌱🌱🌱

And done.

I am notorious for not taking process pictures of... well, any big project. That's usually my housemate's job. But here's where we are on the new greenhouse. 🌱🌱🌱

A couple of my spring-blooming orchids have decided that the weird, cold summer we just had was, in fact, winter, and they're blooming.
If I'm a bit quiet, it's because we're building a new greenhouse! Stay tuned....

Probably the last Double Delight rose of the season, looking and smelling amazing. 🌱🌱

The first monarch butterfly of this year's batch eclosed today, but he didn't stick around for a photo. Busy guy, had places to be....🌱🌱🌱

Yesterday I got to go to Filoli for the first time. What a glorious day!🌱🌱🌱

And here are some friends from the work garden.🌱🌱🌱

Here are some garden friends I saw this weekend. 🌱🌱🌱

Well, looks like the rats got most of the beet crop as well as all the big tomatoes (we're still getting a steady drip of cherry tomatoes). The carrots seem unaffected. Don't know if it's because the carrots were planted deeper, or if rats aren't much for carrots.🌱🌱🌱

The fog rolled in and it turned chilly so quickly that this bee took refuge in the sunflower it had been pollinating minutes before.🌱🌱🌱

Turns out one of the weeds that I habitually pull from between the bricks of the patio is field pussytoes or something similar. It didn't get pulled this year, and now we have American Lady caterpillars. Super excited to make my garden a butterfly sanctuary.🌱🌱🌱

I've been away from the garden traveling for nearly a week. My dear housemates looked after things for me, which is amazing. I stopped at a you-pick flower farm on the way home and picked this bouquet as a thank-you. 🌱🌱🌱

Tossing the remains of this year's rat-gnawed tomato crop into the compost bin. It's a downside to being quite so laid-up for so long, the two-legged and four-legged scavengers are profiting from all the spring work.

My orchid cactus has NEVER had this many blooms. There are nine!🌱🌱🌱

Someone got into the garden while I was at work and picked every last one of my nearly-ripe pluots. I plan to move the potted tree into a fenced area, and then put up a sign that reads, "A Curse On All Thieves" in as many languages as possible. Can anyone help?

You know it's been a cold summer when it's the middle of July and you're only just starting to get zucchini/courgettes.

Indoor plant report, since I can walk without pain now but I'm still having trouble bending down. My N. Ventricosa x Aristo has made its first trap, my Paph "Spring Starlight" has two flowers, and I can never get enough of Prosthechea cochleata.🌱🌱🌱

When I get down on myself because the home garden is not up to my usual standards (a pinched nerve, apparently, is the cause), I have to remember that the garden means many different things to many different beings.🌱🌱🌱

Behold the nicest cauliflower I have ever grown. In the home garden, of course. 🌱🌱🌱

Still struggling with injury. But the aquilegia in the work garden is blooming. 🌱🌱🌱
