I was sorry to hear about the passing of the luminous and quirky screen presence, Diane Keaton! The DVD of Warren Beatty's Reds, for which she received an Oscar nom, has sat in my studio the past few weeks, waiting for the right moment to rewatch. Look forward to revisiting even more now.

RIP Robert Redford. He had a great career arc but I particularly admired his 1970's and later political/spy thrillers like Three Days of the Condor, All the President's Men and Spy Game. Anyone familiar with my work on Rob Hanes Adventures will see some of the DNA of those films in my work.

At Long Beach Comic Con recently, I had artist/writer Howard Chaykin sign my copy of the back cover to Blackhawk #3, since I have the original hanging on my wall, which I purchased from him in 1991! Also brought some recent collections of his work to sign, and got an American Flagg print.

Happy birthday to cartoonist Frank Robbins (1917-94), creator of Johnny Hazard, who cut his teeth on Scorchy Smith, and worked for DC and Marvel in his later years. Out of the Caniff/Sickles school, he was a terrific draftsman whose stories were always jaunty and fast moving! Even own an original!

Oh, and saw the Rutles at the Troubadour in the ‘90s—or rather Neil Innes in character as Ron Nasty with a small orchestra and a Beatles tribute band as backup lol. Saw comedian/Spinal Tap member Harry Shearer there!

Recently saw the Jack Kirby exhibition at the Skirball Cultural Center museum in L.A.! Plenty of original art, and a fitting tribute to his life, visionary imagination, and impact on comics and modern culture and mythology.
