A home for all my geeky stuff: Wargames, board games, occasional computer games...anything geeky.
As FB becomes less habitable, I will probably port over less geeky, but still uninteresting things, like my latest parkrun experience.
Parkrun #240: Chilton Fields. No weekday run as was unwell. A small, friendly 3 lap course around a playing field and track. A bit twisty and tight and about 80% trail with slippery mud and puddles. Hard run and 1 min slower than last week.

The good old days; GW models were £1 each and amorphous blobs of metal, but I still loved the battle reports done with icons rather than photographs.

Started Ender Magnolia: Plays the same as Ender Lilies but with a different feel and story. It's easier traversing the areas but the level bosses are TOUGH, as in I can't do the first one! Fortunately it's a little more open world so have lots to explore and level up.
Great Metroidvania game.

Not much of a gamer, but just bought Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 because 9 awards, I have a PS5 and why not try it out? Not played a YGIG game since FF13. Hopefully use it to while the dark cold new year away.

Parkrun #239: Brook Leys (the new Story's field). Cold but sunny, felt rough and knees a bit achy. Bad sleep and up early.
It is a very fast course. All tarmac/gravel and 2 and a bit laps with 100m hilly part. Lots of folks to pace with and was 126th with my 2nd best time of the year of 23.25.

Just watching Good Omens 2. On screen is a demon, Job and Job's son. In real life, the demon is the scottish son-in-law of Job, the son is Job's grandson and there's 2 Dr.Whos trying to convince a heavenly host that the BBC doesn't run on nepotism.

Surprise good weather so managed a run today. Knees grumbled a bit so cut it slightly short. Still have no idea how to 'run' in heart rate zone 2 as I go past that with a brisk walk.

Parkrun #238: New local Frank's Farm. 24.00. No weekday run. Uphill for 1.5km, only 25M ascent but long. The last 1.5km is downhill (see stats, a 4.12 last Km). Exposed wet and windy farmland, half concrete, half grass/mud/gravel. Not pleasant but will be nice in the summer. Great facilities though.

Now that's a sound I haven't heard in a long time. A long time...

I think my boiler might be working again

Parkrun 237, Stevenage: 23.56. Cold, wet and windy. A undulating tarmac course that was tricky to keep a steady speed on. Pace was ok. Final 150m where uphill on grass! Felt difficult today but was running faster than usual after a slow start. Good parking, facilities and pretty (in summer).

Midweek run. A downed tree and my watch not showing distances meant I had to guess the distance and speed. Too fast and too short, but felt good all the way. Not too chilly either. Still doing it, though the harder weather is to come. Hope to do another run/week in the new year.

Parkrun 236: Bedford. 23.37. Felt good but the run was oddly hard, 2.5 laps on tarmac around a pretty park with a small 'hill' that went on for a while (44m ascent, more than Fulborn). My watch display went wrong so followed folks, also gps was out by 150m. Enjoyable but better in the summer.

Back to 10km. Cold and wet so out comes the winter clothes. Running to audiobooks again so keeping the pace down, only some mild hip pain towards the end. Big win today because I was so close to saying no. Helping my Parkrun times too...or a coincidence.

Parkrun #235. Castle Park: Odd run; tight track, then open playing fields. Quite demoralising in some respects. Ran well, smoothly and pushed during the 4th km. Got my 3rd Fastest time of 23.23. Good parking and close facilities.

Sad day for molecular biology...That being said, he didn't credit Franklin for the discovery of the structure of DNA and he was a massive dick re sex and race. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
James Watson: DNA pioneer dies at 97
Watson co-discover the double-helix structure of DNA, but his reputation was later damaged by his comments on race and sex.

Parkrun #234 Thornhill walks. 23.49. Lovely wooded run only an hour away. Good conditions. Difficult going though, a 3-lapper with a total 22m ascent and a tight and twisty layout. Very friendly folks so will go back. 'Hardest course' I have run so far according to a certain website.
November 8, 2025 at 12:52 PM
Short run this week as I thought I didn't have time, am in a bit of pain, and was not in the mood in any way. I call this a 7000 win. (Stop was for a train).
November 6, 2025 at 3:19 PM
Parkrun #233. Littleport: 23.29. Warm and windy, locked onto folks to keep my speed up and did my 4th fastest time. I also volunteered with take down which gifted me Stopwatch Bingo Complete!
Below shows speed because the pace was very smooth.

Geek Rant: The Cathay Sentinel is fast becoming the worst model to put together, taking over from the blood Bowl pump wagon. Unclear instructions or none at all, parts that basically balance while the glue dries. It's a "I hope this is right because it'll have to dry before the next bit" model.

Week 3 of Discipline is good for you. 5 mins faster than the last two, but no headphones this time. Only 1 more route from my house before I have to start repeating. Hopefully the mild trauma will help me forget and it all seems like new....trauma.

Parkrun 232, Fulbourn: Did setup today (big mistake as I didn't remember the course, they'll find the lost eventually). 4 laps with a slight hill, felt hard but did a good time of 23.49 (watch started late and trees made it pointless).

Week 2 of trying to get better at running/being healthy. 10KM run around villages again. Let hope I can keep this up.

Some big changes. 1 change is that you can get say 4 catchers for an elf team, but only 2 in the box meaning buying extras. Now they will all be changed to "What's in the box"...annoying many folks who have spent out on extra players. Extra rules and clarity seems solid though.
