“Digital detox” sounds holy until you realize it’s a moral detox. Don’t look! Don’t question! Don’t act! Don’t care! What would Jesus do? Not this.

They told enslaved people to obey their masters. They told Germans to ignore the camps. They told South Africans that apartheid was God’s order. Now they’re telling you to unplug for a month. This is not a digital fast but a strategy to keep Christians unaware of and quiet about ongoing atrocities.

Nothing says “What Would Jesus Do?” Like telling a congregation to turn off their phones and ignore the world burning around them. A digital detox? More like a moral detox. A way to cleanse the conscience by refusing to see your neighbors suffer.

This is... actually a fairly reasonable takeaway from this year.
