With all due respect, the national labs that fall under his purview have done outstanding work to help operators “know when they’re gonna be there.” I know this is a standard talking point RE: renewables but it doesn’t reflect reality in 2025. These systems are highly reliable & well understood now.
Energy Secretary Chris Wright: "With wind & solar, you don't know when they're gonna be there & when they're gonna go away. That's just not productive for the electricity grid. They end up just making the reliable stuff have to turn down when the wind is blowing, turn back up again when wind dies"

I get that the first response from many people may be a spit take, but for the 2 locations they’re talking about this isn’t actually that crazy of an idea (there’s adjacent rail access to both). That said, I’m not sure it’s actually solving a problem that couldn’t be solved w/ stationary batteries.
