Moscow Art Theatre was well known in the US in the late 20's and then Stanislovsky's acting manuals. When the New Federal Theatre was formed (as part of Roosevelt's WPA / New Deal), it was based in part on the ideas from Moscow Art Theatre and Stanislovsky and Chekov.
