What isn’t neuroinflammation - a single parameter of change (morphology or molecular). The bigger question for me is whether astrocyte changes without microglia changes qualify as inflammation. To me microglia are better indicators of inflammation

My research focuses on developing mechanism based treatments for pediatric traumatic brain injuries - from abusive head trauma in infants to sports concussions in teenagers. Mentoring up and coming scientists (future and current PhDs) with a focus on those underrepresented in STEM is my passion

I disagree with the premise of this op-ed. Much as we (as scientists) like to think we are “above the fray”, everything we do as scientists has a substantial political angle. From appointments to promotions to tenure at the university level to grant and manuscript reviews and even grant awards.
