Gathering good people. Committed to regenerative systems.
A fascinating evening at The Lightning Society in Brooklyn, put together by our friends Benjamin Von Wong and featuring Michael Mezzatesta and myself, all about the present and future of leaning into regenerative economics.

Our movement is in the air! It was a packed house!

Our son is developing quite the vocabulary and so I'm offering small nuggets of dad advice I hope will serve him well.

Become competent, not expert, at everything you touch.

Last night's sunset release of baby turtles on Playa La Ropa. The boy was immobilized and frankly concerned. We had to explain that they live in the ocean and are happy there.

The path to Zihuatenejo. And I feel this Mexican graffiti artist. We haven't been the best of neighbors.

More of autumn. Thanks Benjamin Von Wong for this shot of me co-hosting the Warm Data Lab at the Denizen retreat.

Thank you Wil Otero for stepping in as our chef, celebrating the Caribbean.

Thank you @karinjjohnson.bsky.social for corralling our boy and helping to make the evening smooth.

This was our last community GP Dinner of the year. Please look for our next ticketed dinner in Q1 of 2026.

@nickjankel.bsky.social thanks again for popping up to SF from LA after your trip to Amsterdam.

Going into The Dark together was a transformative conversation for our community, reflecting on courage, introspection and the kind of initiations and medicine needed by so many right now in our society.

As David put it, Chouinnard and his family have benefited us all through the "compounding interest" of their adherence to naturalist values.

If you're wondering what it's like to have the courage of your convictions and the integrity to stay the course over decades, read this book. We could use more leaders who are fundamentally motivated by things other than wealth, fame and power.

On Saturday night we hosted about 60 Good People at TinkerTendo for a dinner to celebrate David Gelles and his new book Dirtbag Billionaire, about Yvon Chouinnard and Patagonia.

Big thanks to Esther Yoon, Matt Mullenweg, Hanif Sadr and especially Karin Justine Johnson for making this all possible.

Every day we spruce up. Every step improves the experience for Camp Earnest visitors.

More signs went up, to help guests navigate more easily.

The new ice-maker works great!

New solar lights went up on the mural across from the lodge, the Tuolumne sign and the sign at the Cedar Springs gate.

I lived in San Francisco for 22 years before we transitioned to the mountains.

This spiritual materialism is one of two things I feel relieved to have distance from.

The other is myopic technology solutionism, as in, "don't worry about climate change or biodiversity loss. AI will fix that."

We have a Mountain Paradise sign that hung at our Tuolumne gate for a year or so, but it was only one-sided.

Karin suggested we move this one to our gate on Cedar Springs Road and Mike made this live edge sign two sided and illuminated by a solar real estate light that turns itself on at night.

Garden veggies here at Camp Earnest. Can't get enough tomatoes.

There's a border we inherited in front of the lodge, between the gravel and the wood chips. It's been demarcated by small wood rounds that had thoroughly rotted.

So we tore these out and replaced them with a nice local black granite. Soon we'll fill this sloped peninsula with fresh wood chips.

Good People,

Our October 4th dinner to celebrate David Gelles' new book Dirtbag Billionaire quickly sold out.

We've reached out to our friend Matt and he's graciously allowed us use of his big building in San Francisco's Dogpatch neighborhood. Chef also agreed to a new cap of 60 guests.

ZZ Top is playing tonight at Ironstone Vineyards. I bet there are thousands of fans in the outdoor amphitheater.

But we arrived way early and enjoyed our friend Katrina's husband playing in the huge wine cave. Then we went home.

Had to say goodbye to mom today. She had our help to check in and some nice folks at American Airlines to the gate and onto the plane.

I am so lucky to have such a wonderful mom. And my bonus mom Prema.

He needed to go outside and say cheese during dinner with mom and Marsha last night. This is some wonderful California fusion Chinese food.

Mom sends us such gorgeous cards.
