After achieving success, many directors slough off. They can get anything made so there’s no pressure to do well. Paul Thomas Anderson’s last two movies were abysmal, Todd Phillips followed the amazing Joker with Joker: Folies a Deux, even Kubrick ended his career with Eyes Wide Shut.
