Haynes holds a special place for me, my first car back in '86 was 'spares or repair', the engine in bits, I was 17 with no money. So I bought a Haynes manual and read how to build an engine.
I’m on stage at the John Haynes Classic, hope to see you there

The sky is fascinating. If you know a bit of science the world talks to you. Look up and see all the different zones, cloud forms dependent on pressure, humidity temperature etc. It's a busy sky, the way vapour trails disappear, linger or spread tells you about the conditions in that bit of the sky.

Things in my pocket on an average day. What tools do you like to have with you?

Predictions are always perilous. But I think we're in for a long, hot, dry summer. Maybe a real bad one. And if that happens it's going to get more people thinking about the environment, and what we're doing to it. And that means attitudes to cars etc. may change. Are we ready?

Throwback Thursday to my old Comp Safari days, so much fun competing in this V8 bucket. I sold it a long time ago but I just searched the number plate and it had an MOT recently. It lives on!

The old Volvo also looks moody, I was turning the workshop lights off at the end of the day and it started staring at me!

Looking moody. There was a Lotus in this bay not so long ago...
Project Slug now has an XJR6 engine and LSD. First project with my son. Means a lot.

Can you guess what car I took this piston out of?

If you like cars and jeopardy then you may like tonight's episode of Born Mechanic where I attempt to help Ant Anstead with a very tricky Lotus. It's on Quest / Discovery+ at 8pm UK.

I really should spend more time here. Lovely people. Here's a rubbish picture of an impressive red moon by our local church, using my Leaf as a steady.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #2,208,820! Not sure how that's important in any way, but there it is.
