the taxonomic rank of families (which some kids might have already heard used in passing), while also being super specific about what exactly is similar between the human and taxonomic names

You use the sentences “This is sort of like a person’s last name. A bunch of related people can share their last name, and a bunch of living things can share their genus.” IMO this can help clarify that you’re not talking about a *human* name and not (cont)

Okay fire!! Because I really, really like the idea to compare a genus and species name to a human last and first name (and I WILL be stealing it the next time I get to teach kids taxonomy) & I wanted to suggest that instead of the sentence “This is sort of like a family’s last name.” (Cont)

I don’t post super super often but I’d love to be added as a contributor for when I do post art! I try to participate in Sunday Fish Sketches now and then and I’m hoping to add my art more regularly this year!

Maybe not super helpful idk! But at least in the California Scrub Jays I see around I’ve definitely seen acorn burying behavior like that in our backyard! Maybe a common behavior across jays?

Would be a fun study for someone trying to learn how to capture transparent and clear materials in ink or other mediums!

I highly recommend checking out the reference photo. I captured some of the ghostliness by only drawing the most visible wisps of rays, but it’s only properly captured in photo. Even the main body gradually transitions into transparent suggestions of its outline (look closely near the adipose fin!)

Complete agreement that they should be banned :/ But tbh what’s in my immediate control is to get this bullshit off my discovery and stop giving them views that encourage the algorithm to further spread it. If they see it as some weird flex so be it :/, my priority is my peace of mind, not their ego

So far my biggest issue after figuring that out is there are also networks of a couple different bots posting political memeslop no real human person would ever post but every time I mute one account 2 more pop up :/. But if it’s just one recurring account (I also had that issue) this is a good fix

One thing that helps is, if it’s a single specific annoying account, you can press the “mute account”/“block account” buttons and it’ll block stuff from that account full stop. Same menu as the “show less button”!
