Most people know by now that British people pay expensive water bills so that UK water companies can extract huge profits despite failing to provide an adequate infrastructure. Fewer people know that the same is true for our electricity bills. Even more scandalously, the private company called National Grid plc is owned by the Abu Dhabi petro-dictatorship and US billionaire owned hedge funds. They have a vested interest in the grid being unable to connect renewable energy sources. In 2023 the BBC estimated that there was about £200 billion in clean energy projects awaiting connection to the national grid, with the longest waiting times in Europe to be connected.
