these are some coat color/pattern concepts for my original species from when i was coming up with the genes that control the color/pattern of their fur. they're largely based on horse (and some dog) genetics.
two red-base characters showing the gene that gives the body red-only pigment (no black pigment). one has a lage white blaze and white tail, indicating heavy expression of a white-pattern gene. the other has no markings. two more characters, the first a blue-silver shade you would get from a black coat color muted by a dilute gene. the second has both black and red genes, resulting in a deeper, less saturated brown color (analogous to bay horses). this character has small white markings on their tailtip, fingers, and nose.

the other slide that stuck out to me was a watercolor i painted sitting in between black sun and volunteer reservoir in 2006 (the same week as the last slide i shared). wild to think that almost twenty years have passed since then.

i find my old hs alt portfolio from time to time while reorganizing, and this time what stands out to me is a slide of the first painting that was indulging of my interest in surreal art and flow-of-consciousness creating (outside of the "paint this box with holes in it" assignment
a small slide of an acrylic painting i made in 2006 of a realm with an orange box with holes through the center of two of its parallel faces, allowing the viewer to see the inside of the box and the black white checkered floor through one and both of the holes respectively. the checkered floor is rippling as if being impacted by the box. in the background are tall cliffs, one on which a white unicorn stands, and another on which large macro drops of water fall. where the water has hit the cliffs, large cracks have formed. the sky is cobalt blue and full of stars.
