The lake was formed by glacial movement during the ice age. The forest authority closed the mountain area for maintenance and restoration works on 10 December 2014 until 5 January 2018, the lake was closed for visitors and will be opened again

It is surrounded by emerald green forest plantation and wildlife.The area surrounds the lake has lodges and hiking trail with a length of 13 km.

The Chiaming Lake (mirror of the moon)) is a lake in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, Taiwan. It is the second highest lake area in Taiwan.The lake surface is 120 meters long and 80 meters wide at an elevation of 3,310 meters.

Photographers gather here to take beautiful shots of the sunset.

It is also possible to overlook the Chiayi-Tainan Plain, Renyi Lake, and Lantan Reservoir. On a good day, you can gaze afar Dongshi and Budai Harbor. Towards the east, you can see mountains of Yushan. In the winter, there’s a chance to see the waterfall of clouds and the sea of clouds.

Eryanping Trail offers great, unobstructed view of sunsets and the sea of clouds. It is a popular secluded spot for photography.

A round trip on the Eryanping Trail takes about 50 minutes. On the way, you will find different scenery of bamboo forest, odd rocks, and tea fields.
