The EU's new benchmarking of countries according to deforestation risk was published yesterday. Unbelievably, many of the world's top deforesters are not seen as high risk. Why? The high-risk category is only informed by UN and EU sanctions, NOT evidence of deforestation. Read more here:

Last week, Rainforest Foundation Norway signed a statement on Omnibus alongside 362 organizations from 53 countries.

❌The statement accuses the EU Commission of deprioritizing human rights, workers’ rights, and environmental protections for the sake of dangerous deregulation.

#COP16 finally secured an agreement on finance last night, after failing to do so in Cali. "The decisions adopted today leave much to be desired, but will provide the basis for new efforts to fund the protection of #nature if acted upon immediately”. Find our immediate reactions here:

New research: Deforestation alone causes 40% of local climate change and up to 20% revenue loss for farmers in Brazil.
But replanting brings the rain and the revenue back.

Norway supports Indonesia with 65 million USD for reduced deforestation.

Victory! The EU Council and Commission stood firm against attempts to weaken the #EUDR regulation in the trilogue negotiations. A significant victory for #forests, #biodiversity and #climate. Despite the one-year delay, this will ensure that only deforestation-free products enters the EU market.
