Book 34: Annihlation by Jeff Vandermeer
July 2nd
3.75⭐️

What a weird book. I liked it but it didn't really capture me. I personally wish there was more explanation but understand why there wasn't, what a weird little fungusy book. 💙📚🪐

Book 33: Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire
June 30th
5⭐️

A Reread for me. I wanna catch up on series, so I decided to start at the beginning. Not as impactful as the first time I read it, but still beautiful and dark. How I wish I could have found a doorway as a child. I'm still wishing. 💙📚🪐

Book 32: When the Wolf Comes Home by Nat Cassidy
June 29th
3.25⭐️

I am in the minority here, not enjoying the book. It should have worked, I have no father and the fear I have is clinical, but maybe that is why it didn't hit. Since I deal daily with debilitating fear. I did like THAT Santos part.💙📚🩸

Book 31: Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett
June 24th
4⭐️

More difficult to get invested in than the last romance, but I really enjoyed it by the end. Wendell is my favorite and the reason I am continuing the series with my best friend. I do love sassyness in my couples. 💙📚🪐

I finished up Lucky's reference yesterday, for my first ever Art Fight. My duel personality embodiment of fate/destiny and chance. They love messing with mortals.

Book 30: Strange Houses by Uketsu
June 21st
2⭐️

I liked Strange Pictures much more. This one felt convoluted and jumped to a lot of conclusions. I didn't really find it mysterious and the final twist was fine I suppose. I still like the style of the author, so I will pick up more in the future. 💙📚

A big thank you to @igotbigbooks.bsky.social for mentioning Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove. I just finished it and it has taken the spot of my favourite book, so far, this year.

Book 29: Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove
June 16th
5⭐️

This may have taken the spot of my favorite book of the year; so far. A monster mash full of heart and characters I fell in love with. Queer monsters in space with A.I. Parents. I would do anything for Demeter, I love her. 💙📚🪐

Book 28: The Geographer's Map to Romance by India Holton
June 7th
5⭐️

Another warm hug of a book. I love the humour, the ridiculousness, the low stakes drama. These people are never cruel to each other and I like that in a romance. Just so soft and what I need when the world is on fire. 💙📚

Here is my Succubus Tempeance (Tempy). Her tail and horns change colour depending on emotion and she's a sex worker who loves her job. She dyes her hair and can wear anything or nothing. She is just my fun girl who loves life and passion.

I am trying to get back into art and fight against the negative thoughts that remain from school. If I keep trying and pushing eventually it will look more like how I wish it looked. It has to, right? Anyway this is Temprance my Succubus character. Pose from @adorkastock.com

She should have the snow leopard tail in her mouth like all those snow leopard pictures. Or maybe he could be holding it in his mouth.

Book 27: The Ornithologist's Field Guide to Love by India Holton
May 29th
5⭐️

A cozy hilarious romantic comedy across a fantasy historical England. I loved this. A breath of fresh air and sweetness, sometimes you just need to read happiness. This is happiness bound in a book. 💙📚

Book 26: This Alien Shore by C.S. Friedman
May 12th
4.5 ⭐️

For a book so diverse and forward thinking on disabilities it is so heternormative and binary. That is the main reason it is not 5, but I did love the ideas, the world, the views and quotes about humanity and our nature. Also autistic MC 💙📚🪐

Book 25: Crypt of the Moon Spider by Nathan Ballingrud

4.75 ⭐️

Probably was a bad idea to read this right before bed. Horrifing and gross, I tried not to think too hard about some descriptions because some big phobias for me. I loved it! So weird and so good, arachnophobes be wary. 💙📚🩸 📚🪐

Book 24: A Sorceress Comes to Call by T. Kingfisher
May 6th
4.5 ⭐️

I love T. Kingfisher's writing. A young girl with an abusive Sorceress mother, who learns to fight back and find a true family. This is a fairy tale. Dark edges and cruelty, but also hope, love, and courage. 💙📚🪐

Book 23: Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Canas
April 28th
3⭐️

This is a gothic romance with a small edge of horror. I wish it more balanced between the two, but the turmoil of the relationship was the main focus. I found the pacing of the novel off as well, rushing through certain plot points. 💙📚🩸

Book 22: Area 51 by Robert Doherty
April 6th
3.5⭐️

Apparently I forgot to update with this book. If you want a 90s Action Scifi Thriller packed into novel form. This is the one for you. Tasted like the movies I watched as a child, all crazy action and unbelievability. 💙📚🪐
